![Albi : Arguably the most ornate church in France, la cathédrale Sainte-Cécile is also one of the only remaining western-rite Catholic houses of worship that still has its rood screen (most were dismantled after the Council of Trent [1545-1563]). Indeed, this building managed to withstand the ravages of the Council of Trent, the French Revolution, and two world wars. However, nothing escaped the ravages of the moronic, art-hating Second Vatican Council (1962-1965). An eyesore of a Vatican 2 altar sits discordantly in front of the great doors of the rood screen. (Fear not; that hideous Vatican 2 altar does not figure in any of these photos!)
This was a hard shoot because I only had a 50mm prime lens with me (absolutely the WRONG lens for confined spaces) and I had to negotiate throngs and throngs of my fellow tourists while shooting.
